I am so new to matte paintings... I saw a matte painting in my usual forums at deviant art and i immidiately fell in love with matte paintings.

Now the thing is that i see matte painting will take time and practise but i have done a few attempts and would now wanna composite'em into video... not meaning with people and stuff but just the mattepainting alone.

How to bring it into aftereffects? (or any compositing package), how to handle it there? I know there are some matte specific effects and stuff and i want to know what they are...

There is no general rule.

A typical method for landscape establishment shots would be to
have your elements in different layers based on distance to camera.
Then import your PSD file as composition in after effects.
Turn them to 3d layers.
Add 3D camera
Change their Z position
Add some real elements maybe
Animate the camera.

But as I said “There is no general rule”.
