Greetings. I take it this site is brand new. I don't see posts from anyone besides the administrator. Maybe I can get the ball rolling.

I am a graphic artist for a news paper by day. I don't really care for my job. By night I illustrate stuff for fun and ocassionally get paid.

I never considered being a matte painter because I live in Wisconsin (not exactly the movie capital of the world) and didn't really want to move away. I thought I would get to illustrate a lot workin in advertising but that's not the case.

Recently I discoverd what Matte Painting really is, and realized it would be the most fun job in the world. And my wife and I want to move some place warm.

So here I am. Any tips on how to get a cool matte painting gig would be greatly appreciated! Check out my web site www.swansonillustration.com (http://www.swansonillustration.com) and let me know what you think. It's not aimed at matte painting but show both my 2D and 3D illustation skills.

I hope this site takes off. It looks like a lot of work has been put into it.

Take care,

Shaun

Hey there, glad to be aboard. 8) Thanks for the link Dylan.

I'm not a matte painter specifically, but its one area of many I have a great appreciation and love for. Though not working professionally, Digital Compositing is the field I'm currently enthralled in.

Its nice to see a site like this make an appearance and as I've said in the past, its good to see more and more specific content targeted sites.

Cheers guys.

Lessee... I am an art mongrel. A little bit of concept painting, a bit of texturing, some 2.5D learned on my own... I work for a video game developer and still draw and paint on my own outside of work (you'd be surprised how many DON'T)

As for the forum name... obviously it harkens back to Mike Pangrazio... when I was in High School, a friend of mine and I (I really don't recall who hit it first) came up with a take on an old Memorex commercial. Their slogan was 'Is it live or Memorex?' meaning that their audio tape was so good, you couldn't distinguish between listening to a recording and the real thing... well, we hit with 'Is it live or Pangrazio?' We wre both such fans of his. Later on when I became good friends with Ralph McQuarrie, he told me a great deal about Mike. A phenomenal artist...

Anyhoot, HI ALL!
