Hi,
I'm beginner in Mattepainting and I would try to animate my matte with particles effects (falls, rain, fire...) or create some lights effects. I want to know if i should use AfterFx or Combustion...or make it in 3D with Maya...
thx 8)

hey swoop the best thing to do for elements(fire smoke water ect) is to acutally shoot them on a mini dv camera against black except for water that can be at a lake or somthing you just have to match up the perspective. If you want to add on to your elments like make your fire have more fire then use maya's dynamics engine to create it. As far as compositing goes after effects is the easiest but the least powerfull combustion is next up the line with a some what effective node view, and it is powerfull it has a great keyer for green/blue screen if you really want to get into compositing your shots and you have a apple computer get Shake it has been used in feature films(matrix lotr and others)
just shoot your stuff against black and screen it over whatever you want it on top of.
