I wanted to share a link featuring the matte painting of Helen of the Troy (the original movie).
http://es.geocities.com/chominart/Troy.html

They also made a tv version of the movie.
Stargate films (http://www.stargatefilms.com) did the Matte Paintings and effects.
You can see some of their matte paintings on their website.
They were featured on the cover of Computer Graphics World April 2004 issue.

Great links. I worked on the recent version of 'Troy' and I still haven't seen the early version. Even those grainy screencaps look really good.

As for Stargate Digital, top company. Their website was bit "tempermental" :twisted: before, I'm glad to see they've sorted it out.

I had an interview with their top guy last year. I didn't get the job but he was cool 8) , very into creating perfect photorealism.

The book 'The Invisible Art' is great for pointing out loads of matte shots and other FX you never new were in old movies. So much of the spectacle of pre-1970's Hollywood was painted on glass!

Here's a few more Stargate Films links, I'm a big 'CSI' fan but they do a lot of other programmes too;

Tim Donahue is the matte painting supervisor at Stargate Digital.
He's an old friend. Maybe I can persuade him to look at this site.
