Iraqi scenes
Hi all,

I just finished working on a shot, so I thought I should share it with you.

While I was attending university, I had the chance to work on different traditional animated projects, and now my goal is to become a matte painter at some studio preferably in the UK. It aint easy :)

Anyways, I decided to accept some volunteer jobs to gain experience. This piece is from an independent movie, which takes placein Iraq. In reality, they shot it in Jordan, so my task is to make these places to look like as if it was a war zone.

Most of my previous stuff was quite fantasy like so I enjoyed the realism of it.
The director asked me to to alter the original footage in a way that it it is not distracting.

So here's the first one:

here's the plate

this is more cleanup, not mattepaint to me )) anyway, good work

I see what you mean, however, sometimes it is the job that has to be done. It's not always painting complex scenes from scratch.

That's true - but roto/paint is normally a separate department from matte painting. It is often used as a 'way in' to other roles within VFX, and can be a good first step / junior position in a large studio.

This is a nicely done bit of cleanup work - it will look more professional if you label it as such.

That's good to know. Alex, what do you mean by labeling it?

Anyways this was the first I started with, and it seems there will be more. Gonna post'em here.

Nice job on cleanup.Just keep working and gaining experience. It really doesn't matter if it's a cleanup job or rotoscoping as long it'll lead you to bigger projects.I hope you achieve your dream and become a professional matte painter.

It looks nice, but I see some unrealistic edges wich are a bit blurry :D

Nice Work!
Hi Szabolcs, :)

Nice work on the shot; I really like the way how you've kept the different elements of the shot look as realistic as they are, according to the Director's POV! Keep it up!

Nice work, my only criticism is I think the sky stock must have been burnt out in the brightest part of the cloud, since now it looks grey and has lost some detail. Maybe it could be painted back in by hand.
