With the right tools, and the right mindset, and artistic drive, anything is possible. 3d isn't really all that different than 2d in a lot of ways.. and both are not that different than normal stage...

just remember...
there will be more haze, atmospheric perspective, etc... but also remember that in the dark you can see things that are lighted further away than in the day because the darkeness around it makes it...

Is the ball in the middle suppossed to glow? If so, think about what color it is and how bright... I'd suspect, if it's suppossed to do what I think it should, it should be sort of casting a blue...

That lightsource is really bright. I see what you are trying to do, but I think with a light source that bright, it might be a good idea to add a few more subtle light areas in the clouds to show...

Cinefex is good.
I agree... Cinefex is awesome. It is a bit pricey for a mag though. If you can browse it at a library or bookstore, and can buy it on occassion, go for it.
Other mags are great for references...

sometimes...
watching movies you can see where they are using mattes... but if they are doing it well, you won't be able to tell since it'll look like any other photography... and will be invisible.
