I don't actually have sound working on my machine at work, so I review showreels in silence. It's pretty common. Always a good idea to get to the good stuff as quickly as possible, too. Long intro sequences are often a sign of a bad reel (and this isn't one), so probably not a good idea to throw up a warning sign as a first impression.
Kudos for taking advice on board so quickly, even when it meant throwing away a lot of hard work.
