Default The Illusion of Variety from Shuffled Texture Tiles - 12-29-2004, 08:36 PM

This is more of a (Maya) 3D texture tip than a Matte Painting tip, but with a little imagination one can see how it could be adaptable to matte painting applications.

A limited set of texture tiles randomly shuffled can create the illusion of variety at small rendering cost.





Here's a tutorial I put together on how to get Maya to shuffle those textures:
