You've made a lot of progress with this last one. I'm only looking on my phone right now so ill try and give some better feedback later but the general levels look pretty good here, congrats on the improvements!

I have been following your updates on here and I agree that this is a big improvement.
You mentioned that you need to fix the lighting here and this is the first thing that jumps out at me. There are still hard edged shadows visible when there shouldn't be. This is particuarly evident in the bottom left foreground.
I think that bringing back in the town or adding in an element near the lake would help here. This would introduce more of a clear focal point. Adding in a light souce coming from this would also help. This would give you a nice contrast in lighting. Blue against yellow/ orange. I would also like to see more hills going off into the distance to add more depth.
Just a few thoughts but nice job. Looking forward to seeing more.
@nickmarshallvfx: Thanks for your kind words. I really appreciate it. :) I agree with you. I feel a little more "secure" whilst working.
@Michael_Gardiner: Thanks for your feedback. :) I have changed the shadows in the finished matte.
Also, thanks for your suggestions. I was thinking of having the town at first but I then decided to not have it. I felt like it was cool enough with the ruins in the foreground. And I totally agree, it'd probably look really cool with more contrast in the lighting. I added more hills and yes, the depth has increased. Once again, thanks. :)

A new matte painting I've been working on. Showing the whole process here. Due to feedback etc I had to change certain things, as you will see. Gonna add more highlights and some more ice-"stones" in the picture so it doesn't feel all too empty aswell as some "fog".
Thanks for looking,

Really quick and rough sketch.
Did a rough base plate in Vue just to get a little help with the perspective

This is a matte painting I started last weekend and I've been working on it a couple hours every day (got a lot of stuff to do in school at the moment). Still got tons of work left. "The Hobbit" inspired.

Here is a WIP of one of my current matte paintings I'm working on. One of them is a cityscape (!). Lighting, color correction etc left. Comments and critique is as usual more than welcome.

Here are some more WIP's. The landscape is getting closer to being finished. Have to refine the lighting since I just made a big block out for the pools of light here in the WIP. Also haze etc left. The city matte painting is very early WIP.
