Hi there,

It's been a while... I haven't posted anything since I moved to London.

Unfortunately I can't share any of the matte paintings I've worked on at Dneg, but I can show you some stuff I did whenever I had a little spare time.

I've worked as a lead matte painter on a short film called Dust (due to come out soon)

Here are some examples:

For more information on Dust, go over to CGSociety.

This was just a little practice... I like the movies of Kevin Smith, so I decided to create a piece called Mooby World. Mooby World was first mentioned in Dogma (1999), and it was hinted in Clerks 2 (2006).

Some nerdy facts:

- The Mooby statue in the foreground is based on the prop from the movie Dogma (1999) - Modelled and textured using photos from different views. Didn't remove the blood that's on the original prop.

- Took reference photos in Regent's park, London. All the trees and plants are extracted from those photos and also used those images to create textures for the 3d elements.

- The palace in the background is based on real building from a Chinese theme park.

- Jay and Silent Bob is from a screengrab from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)

- If you look close enough, you'll see God (Alanis Morissette)

and some breakdown

Good paintings in here, I like the third one the most!

Still think we should share the credit for the second one between us since I did a first pass for a couple days & it still preserves it :)
However it turned out nicely & all extra the details pushed the quality further!

Nice job

keep it up

Yeah, Igor has worked on that shot too!

I've kept some bits of your foliage elements and some the mid-ground rocks.

I've had to rebuild the village and the rest of the bg from scratch though.

Hey Rahul,

What a small world, I didn't know that we're working in the same building, 2 floors above me :) I'll drop by sometime!

Really nice work! Thanks for showing the breakdowns - those are very helpful in understanding the workflow.
